May Favourites: 2015

Monday, 1 June 2015

To tell you the truth, not a lot happened in May. It was jam packed full of revision, with a lot of blog post writing and exercise to keep me sane. As this post is going live, I am en route to my last exam before the Summer (I'm either feeling extremely excited or super scared). Shortly afterwards, I will be headed back to my flat to pack, and then off to the train station with Jack to go home for two nights. Come Wednesday morning, we will be jetting off to Spain for ten glorious days in the sun. Don't you worry - I've scheduled enough blog posts to keep my usual routine going throughout my holiday! Apart from heaps upon heaps of revision, the only other May events worth mentioning are: I had my very last shift at Fossil this month (which was terribly sad, but it was just the right time to go - one leaving present to myself is in this post, go and check out my other one here), I went to go and see Pitch Perfect 2 at the cinema and laughed the entire way through, and I had a lovely last meal with the flat from last year before we all go our separate ways for the Summer (and for some, for the next year). Here are all the things that I have been loving throughout May.

After discovering one or two foundations that I like and know how to work with, I can't seem to stop buying them now! After reading endless reviews on how flawless this foundation is, I decided to give it a go. The shade 'sand' isn't my perfect match, I must say, and so I will definitely be picking up the darker shade after I return from my holiday, but it gives such an incredible finish. On a busy day at the start of May, I was out of the house from 8am - 9pm, meaning that it wasn't going to be a great make up day. Wearing this foundation, however, my make up didn't move at all - I didn't need a single touch up at any point of the day. If you need a high coverage drugstore priced foundation, and you like a matte finish, definitely give this a go!

I know that I say it about every single nail polish that I own (seriously, go and read my nail selfie captions on Instagram... it's kind of embarrassing), OH MY GOD AM I IN LOVE WITH THIS NAIL POLISH. I have no idea why it's taken me this long to try out a Rimmel 60 Seconds nail polish. I tend to stick to my Barry M polishes, and have just recently expanded to Essie, but had never delved into Rimmel before. I picked this one up on a whim, having a bit of a nail polish shopping spree (I bought five in one purchase... I'm a bad person), and I am so unbelievably happy that I did. It's the most perfect shade of pink - nothing too bright, but brighter than a nude. I don't want this colour to ever leave my nails.

I mentioned this highlighter/blush/bronzer back in my February favourite's here, speaking about how much I loved it as a highlighter. This time, I am loving it as a blush instead. Without a job anymore, and simply going between my flat and Jack's house to revise, I haven't worn a proper face of make up for the majority of May. However, if I'm headed out of the house with a completely bare face, I don't always feel at my best. I've been popping on my trusty Wake Me Up Concealer to brighten the dark circles under my eyes, and adding a touch of this blush to my cheekbones to give my face a bit of a lift. This is definitely going in my travel make up bag!

This isn't the exact watch displayed in the pictures above - this is the leather strap alternative (it appears my watch may be sold out online). This is one of the leaving presents that I treated myself with, having been staring at the watch for a good two or three months before. I like big watches without them being too chunky, I much prefer a minimalistic face, and I'm a massive fan of mixing metal - and so this gorgeous silver and yellow gold watch ticks all the boxes for me. Click here to read a post entirely dedicated to it, plus a beautiful tri-tone necklace that I also treated myself to.

Okay, I have to admit to something... I haven't actually worn these outside of the house yet. Manchester isn't quite warm enough. Nevertheless, I will be wearing these all day every day whilst I'm in Spain. I can't help but keep getting these out of my wardrobe and staring at their sheer beauty. I know I know, they're only sandals - I may be slightly overreacting. I've just been on the hunt for a pair for the past month, and these are the only ones that I've found that I absolutely adore. Probably more an appropriate June favourite, but I'm too besotted not to mention them for May.

06: Black Mirror
After the bitter-sweet ending on That 70's Show (Jack and I had been watching it since the beginning of January), we realised that we had nothing else to binge watch. After googling the best shows for couples to watch on Netflix, we decided to watch all of the six episodes of Black Mirror that are on Netflix, and then we found the Christmas episode elsewhere. I'm not really too sure how to explain the series, but I will say this - it was incredible. Each episode was unrelated to the last, with a completely new set of actors and characters, with the only similarity being that it was set in some futuristic/alternate world. My favourite episode is actually the first one we ever watched (we watched them in a random order), called 'The Entire History of You', which focused around the premise that you could replay all of your memories at any given moment. If you want something extremely interesting and gripping to watch, Black Mirror is definitely worth giving a go.

07: Pitch Perfect 2
Like I mentioned in my little May summary at the very beginning of this post (I always forget how long my favourite posts end up being. A round of applause to you sir, if you've stayed until the very end!), I went to go and see Pitch Perfect 2 this month and absolutely loved it. I wasn't really expecting a great amount from it - considering how amazing the first one was, I felt that it was too high a standard to live up to. It managed to overcome all of my doubts, however, as it was every bit as good as the first one. I won't say too much as I don't want to ruin it for those of you who haven't yet had the chance to see it, but it had me in a fit of giggles from the word go. I cannot wait to own it on DVD, and watch both movies back to back!

And there we have it - the month of May summed up for you all. How has your month been?
